Electromagnetic pulse

I was watching The Discovery Channel earlier today and I was impressed by their short film about "Electromagnetic pulse".

The term electromagnetic pulse (sometimes abbreviated EMP) has the following meanings:

1. A burst of electromagnetic radiation from an explosion (especially a nuclear explosion) or a suddenly fluctuating magnetic field. The resulting electric and magnetic fields may couple with electrical/electronic systems to produce damaging current and voltage surges.

2. A broadband, high-intensity, short-duration burst of electromagnetic energy.

The fact that an electromagnetic pulse is produced by a nuclear explosion was known since the earliest days of nuclear weapons testing, but the magnitude of the EMP and the significance of its effects were realized very slowly

A burst of electromagnetic pulse within a 30 mile radius can damage cities accross the U.S,
That's why a team of military experts has decided to create a defense or a weapon to counter EMP. The military needs to complete it's defense against EMP before their own invention
( nuclear missle explosion) could destroy the human race.
